Description
Lagada eggplant is a Greek, traditional variety, originating from the region of Lagada, Thessaloniki, where it got its name. It has an elongated fruit, which can reach up to 17 cm in length, with a characteristic dark purple/violet colour. The taste is slightly sweet and the texture is very creamy. It is ideal for cooking in the oven and pan, for use in aubergine salad and for stuffing.
It is cultivated throughout Greece with great success. The Lagada eggplant is an upright plant, without the need for tying, and highly productive. It is planted from mid-spring to early summer, depending on the region, climate and altitude . The first harvest takes place about 80 days after planting .
